Connecting Your Revolut Terminal to Twine POS

Pair your Revolut Terminal with Twine POS so sale totals are sent straight to the card reader — no manual keying, no mismatched totals.

This is a Pay at Counter (push-payment) integration. You ring up the sale in Twine POS, and the amount appears on your Revolut Terminal ready for the customer to tap. The two devices talk over the internet through Revolut's Merchant API — there's no cable, Bluetooth, or app to install on the terminal.

Time: ~10 minutes  ·  You'll need: your Revolut Business login and physical access to your Revolut Terminal.

Note
You'll move between two places: your Revolut Business account (web or mobile app) and the Revolut Terminal device itself. Have both to hand before you start.

Before you start

  • An active Revolut Business account.
  • An active Merchant account — this is a sub-account of your Business account and is what unlocks the Merchant API. Check under Home → Merchant if you're not sure.
  • One or more Revolut Terminal devices, activated and connected to the internet.
  • Admin access to Twine POS, or your Twine onboarding contact.
Warning
The Merchant API only appears once your Merchant account is active. If you can't find the APIs menu in Step 1, your Merchant account may still be under review — check its status in Revolut Business or contact Revolut support first.

Step 1 · Get your Revolut Merchant API key

This is the credential that lets Twine send payments to your terminal. Treat it like a password.

  1. Sign in to your Revolut Business account (on the web or in the app).
  2. Open Settings — the cog icon (top-right on web) or your profile icon (top-left on mobile).
  3. Go to APIs → Merchant API.
  4. Under Production API keys, click Generate (first time only) to create your key. Revolut may label this simply your Production API key — it's the Secret key Twine needs.
  5. Copy the key and store it somewhere safe.
Warning
Revolut shows the Secret key only once, at the moment you generate it. If you navigate away without copying it, you'll have to generate a new one and start again.
Tip
Revolut has two separate environments — Production (real money) and Sandbox (testing). For taking real payments, always use your Production key. Only use a Sandbox key if Twine specifically asks you to run a test first — the two are not interchangeable.

Step 2 · Enable Pay at Counter on your Revolut Terminal

Pay at Counter puts the terminal into a passive state — it waits for a sale to be pushed from Twine instead of showing its own checkout screen.

Do this on each Revolut Terminal you want to use with Twine:

  1. Sign in to your Revolut Business account on the terminal and select the location the device belongs to.
  2. Tap More → Settings → Checkout.
  3. Toggle Pay at Counter to on.

The terminal will now sit idle until Twine sends it a payment.

Note
A terminal can only receive payments for sales created at the same location it's assigned to. If you run more than one venue, make sure each terminal is on the correct location.

Step 3 · Note your location and terminal

Twine needs to know which terminal to send each sale to. Have these details ready:

  • The location the terminal is assigned to — the venue name as it appears in Revolut Business.
  • The terminal serial number — printed on the back of the device, and also shown in Revolut Business under Home → your location → Terminals.

If you have several terminals, list the serial number of each one along with the location it sits in.

Step 4 · Hand the details to Twine

Give your Twine onboarding or support contact:

  • Your Merchant API key from Step 1.
  • The location and terminal serial number(s) from Step 3.
  • The currency you take payments in (for example, EUR).

Twine configures these against your account and switches on the Revolut payment method on your tills. Because these settings live on your Twine account rather than on the till itself, your devices pick them up automatically the next time they sync — there's nothing to reinstall.

Warning
Send your API key securely — never in a public chat or email thread. Use Twine's support portal or ask your contact for a secure link. If you ever think a key has been exposed, regenerate it in Revolut Business (Step 1) and let Twine know so we can update it.

How it works at the till

Once you're connected, taking a Revolut payment is automatic:

  1. Ring up the sale in Twine POS and choose Revolut as the payment method.
  2. Twine pushes the amount to the Revolut Terminal at that location.
  3. The customer taps, inserts, or swipes their card on the terminal.
  4. The result comes straight back to Twine — the order is marked paid and the receipt prints.

No total is ever typed twice, so there's nothing to mismatch at end of day.

Troubleshooting

The payment never reaches the terminal

  • Check the terminal is powered on and online (connected to WiFi or mobile data).
  • Confirm Pay at Counter is still enabled (Step 2) — a terminal restart or software update can occasionally reset it.
  • Make sure the terminal is assigned to the same location the sale was created at.

"Unauthorised" errors, or the integration won't activate

  • The API key may be incorrect, regenerated, or from the wrong environment (Sandbox vs Production). Generate a fresh Production key (Step 1) and resend it to Twine.
  • Confirm your Merchant account is still active in Revolut Business.

It works on one terminal but not another

  • Each terminal needs Pay at Counter enabled individually (Step 2) and must be registered with Twine (Steps 3–4). Add the missing terminal's serial number to your Twine setup.
